Johnny Depp’s estranged wife Amber Heard has dropped her domestic violence restraining order against the actor.

Amber Heard has dropped her domestic violence restraining order against Johnny Depp, according to a court filing. The actress requested that the order be dismissed on Friday, August 3rd, after initially filing for divorce from the actor in May 2016. She claimed at the time that Depp had been physically and emotionally abusive towards her during their marriage.

In court documents filed in Los Angeles on August 2nd, Heard said she was dropping the restraining order because she “has been informed that Mr Depp is suffering from severe depression and has been hospitalised”.

“This was not done lightly,” Heard added. “I am truly sorry about all that has occurred.”

What is a domestic violence restraining order?

In California, a person can obtain a domestic violence restraining order if they feel threatened by someone else. The person who feels threatened must have an intimate relationship with the other person involved or must have lived with them for at least two years within the past five years. If granted by a judge, this type of restraining order can be used to protect someone from physical harm or harassment.
