HBO Max is a streaming service created by WarnerMedia in 2021.
WarnerMedia has announced that it will be launching its own streaming service, HBO Max, in late 2021. The new service will be a competitor to the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime Video and will offer original content from the likes of Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele.
What is HBO Max?
HBO Max is a new streaming service that was announced on October 27th, 2021 by WarnerMedia (the parent company of Turner). The service will offer original content from the likes of Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele.
Why was HBO Max created?
The creation of HBO Max was due to WarnerMedia wanting to take advantage of the growing number of people cutting their cable TV packages in favour of streaming services. It was also a result of AT&T’s acquisition of Time Warner in June 2018. Following this acquisition, AT&T said it would launch an over-the-top (OTT) video service featuring Time Warner’s entertainment brands as well as new original content developed specifically for the platform. The launch date for HBO Max had been scheduled for 2020 but was pushed back following AT&T’s failed attempt to acquire 21st Century Fox’s film and television assets.
