The Buffalo Bills are the only team in the NFL to play all of their home games in a stadium named after a bank.

Buffalo Bills is a name that sounds like it would be related to football, but the actual origin of the name is much more interesting. The Buffalo Bills are the only team in the NFL to play all of their home games in a stadium named after a bank. It might seem strange that one of America’s most popular sports teams plays its home games in New Era Field, but there’s actually quite an interesting story behind it.

Where did Buffalo get its name?

The city of Buffalo was founded on May 1st, 1801 by Joseph Ellicott, who was commissioned by Thomas Jefferson to lay out America’s first planned city. He named it after his friend, Alexander Buell, who had fought with him during the Revolutionary War and was killed during the Battle of Fort Washington. There were originally two cities called Buffalo – one in New York and one in Erie County – but they merged into one by 1810.

Why is there a buffalo on the Bills logo?

There are several theories as to why there is a buffalo on their logo and why they were called “Buffalo Bill” from when they were founded until 1977 when they changed their name to just “Bills” for legal reasons. One theory suggests that because Ellicott was commissioned by Jefferson, he may have been inspired by Jefferson’s own nickname “Buffalo Bill” which he earned while serving as Governor of Virginia during an Indian war (although this nickname has also been attributed to his time as commander of Virginia militia). Another theory says that it could be because Buell had killed an enormous buffalo near Niagara Falls while fighting with Ellicott.
