Babar Azam is Pakistan’s star batsman.

Pakistan’s Babar Azam is one of the world’s best batsmen. He has a top score of 264 runs in a Test match, which he achieved against Sri Lanka in 2018. However, some fans were confused when he was named as the “Zimbabbar Babar” in his team’s announcement for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Here is everything you need to know about why Babar Azam is called Zimbabbar.

Who is Babar Azam?

Babar Azam, or simply Baba, has been playing cricket since 2008 and has represented Pakistan at every level since then, from Under-19 to Test cricket and T20Is.

Why does Babar Azam have two names?

The reason behind this unusual name choice stems from his birth country of Zimbabwe, where he was born on January 12th 1994. His parents moved to Pakistan shortly after his birth and it was here that he first started playing cricket.

He also holds Pakistani citizenship, so there are no issues with him representing the national team as a Pakistani cricketer.

What does Zimbabbar mean?
  • “Zim”: “A shortened version of Zimbabwe.”
  • “Ba”
  • : “A shortened version of Babar.”

  • “R”
  • : “The letter ‘r’ pronounced with a rolled ‘r’.”
