Why India is not in FIFA 2022

In 2022, India won’t be a member of FIFA due to its ban from international football.

The ban on India’s participation in international football was lifted on June 12, 2019. However, the country will not be participating in the World Cup 2022 in Qatar. The reason for this is that it had been banned from playing in any international tournaments since December 2018.

It was also not possible for India to participate in the 2023 Asian Cup or the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. This is because of a ban by FIFA on any countries with unresolved disputes over territory or political status. India’s case is particularly complicated because it has two conflicting claims over Kashmir – one by India and one by Pakistan.

India and Pakistan, which have fought three wars over Kashmir since independence from Britain in 1947, agreed last year to withdraw troops from their de facto border as a step towards normalizing relations.
