The 15th episode of Game of Thrones’ seventh season is the longest in the show’s history. The 70-minute-long episode, titled “The Dragon and the Wolf”, features many reunions between characters that have been separated for a long time. It also sets up a lot of storylines for next season. Here are some highlights from this jam-packed finale.

Why was it so long?

Game of Thrones episodes usually run around 50 minutes, so why did this one run so much longer? The answer is that there was a lot to fit into this one episode. There were several reunions between characters who hadn’t seen each other in years and there were plenty of scenes set at Winterfell with Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow (Kit Harington). This meant that there was a lot to cover, which meant more dialogue and more scenes.

Who are some notable characters who died?

“Arya Stark”

Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) killed off two major characters in this finale: The Night King (Vladimir Furdik) and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey). Arya had been on her own since fleeing Winterfell during its destruction at the end of Season 6. She was saved by Nymeria when she came across an injured wolf who attacked her while she was sleeping. Nymeria then led Arya to safety after taking out two wights with her teeth.

“Jaime Lannister”

Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) has finally left Cersei after learning about her plot to blow up King’s Landing with wildfire during last week’s episode. He is heading north on horseback along with Brienne Tarth (Gwendoline Christie), who has sworn to protect him from any danger he might face on his journey home.

“Cersei Lannister”

Cersei Lannister finally got what she wanted: A trial by combat against Gregor Clegane aka The Mountain (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson). However, it wasn’t exactly what she expected as Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbaek) destroyed The Mountain using an enchanted spear called “Lightbringer”. Cersei then used wildfire against everyone present at her trial before Jaime arrived to take her away.

“Tyrion Lannister”

Tyrion Lannister has escaped King’s Landing along with Varys Targaryen before Daenerys’ dragon Drogon destroyed all remaining supplies of wildfire hidden beneath
