MPs have to stand up during Prime Minister’s Questions.

Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs) is a weekly event in the House of Commons where the leader of the opposition gets to question the Prime Minister on any topic they wish. It is an opportunity for MPs to ask questions and for the public to see how their elected officials are doing their jobs. PMQs takes place every Wednesday at noon and lasts about 30 minutes. One of the more unusual aspects of PMQs is that MPs must stand up during it, rather than sitting down like they do for other debates.

Why do MPs have to stand up during PMQs?

The reason why MPs have to stand up during PMQs is because it used to be a much longer debate, taking over an hour and a half. In order for everyone in attendance to see what was going on, it was decided that everyone should be standing. This tradition has continued into modern times as a way of showing respect for whoever is speaking at the time.
