The news came as a shock to fans and pundits alike, but it was revealed that Kohli had been suffering from burnout for some time and needed to step away from the game.

Why did Virat Kohli step down?

Kohli was reportedly struggling with burnout during the 2019 Cricket World Cup, but he was still able to lead India to victory. However, after an investigation by India Today it was revealed that he’d been dealing with burnout for some time and that his decision to step down had been coming for some time. It is believed that he’d been experiencing symptoms of burnout since at least early 2020.
