Tina Turner has renounced her US citizenship and moved to Switzerland.
Tina Turner, the iconic singer and actress, has renounced her US citizenship. She was born in Nutbush, Tennessee, in 1939 but has lived in Switzerland since 2013. Her new status is expected to be confirmed by the end of October 2022. Here’s why Tina Turner left the US.
Why did Tina Turner leave the US?
Tina Turner said she had given up her American citizenship because she “loves” Switzerland and feels at home there. The 79-year-old singer said she took Swiss nationality because of her “tremendous feeling of being welcome” and “acceptance” as a Swiss citizen.

The singer’s partner, Erwin Bach, is from Canton Aargau in northern Switzerland.
Switzerland is also one of the world’s most stable countries with its own currency, legal system and army.
It offers a high quality of life with its beautiful scenery, excellent transport links and clean air.
It also has one of the highest standards of living in Europe – with an average annual salary per person (adjusted for purchasing power) of $80k (£62k). This is double that found in Britain or France.
Switzerland offers a generous pension scheme which gives all citizens over 65 a monthly stipend – called a ‘rente’ – based on how much they have paid into it during their working life.
