After months of speculation, Theresa May announced her resignation as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on June 7th, 2021. The resignation came as a shock to many in Westminster and beyond, but there had been signs that May was considering stepping down. The Prime Minister said she was leaving because she felt she had done all she could to get a Brexit deal through Parliament. However, it is widely believed that her own Conservative Party’s failure to back her deal played a large part in her decision.
