The Supreme Court has upheld a law that bans abortions in the state of Louisiana. The ruling was made by a 5-4 majority, with Justice Clarence Thomas writing the opinion. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg wrote the dissenting opinion, joined by Justices Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan. The ruling came after an appeal was made by two abortion clinics, which were challenging a Louisiana law that requires doctors who perform abortions to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals.

In their ruling, Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito said that the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v Wade was “an embarrassment” and argued that it should be overturned.
