Keisha Lance Bottoms, the mayor of Atlanta, resigned on October 27th. She had previously been criticized for her handling of the recent Ebola outbreak in the city. Here’s what you need to know about her and why she resigned.

Who is Keisha Lance Bottoms?

Keisha Lance Bottoms is a politician from Atlanta, Georgia. She was born in 1971 and grew up with her mother and brother in South Carolina. Her father died when she was just five years old.

Bottoms attended Hampton University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and political science. She then went on to earn a law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law.

She worked as an attorney for 13 years before entering politics.

In 2005, Bottoms began working as an attorney for AT&T Wireless Services Inc., where she represented the company’s employees before local and federal courts, according to her campaign website.

She later became senior counsel at Alston & Bird LLP where she worked until 2012 when she became a partner at DLA Piper LLP.

In 2010, Keisha Lance Bottoms ran for a seat on the Atlanta City Council but lost by just 2%

She ran again two years later and won against incumbent Carla Smith by just 2%.
