Who is Ajak?

Ajak was a young boy from Sudan who arrived in the UK with his mother Nyanzi and younger brother Tutu when he was 10 years old. They were fleeing civil war in their home country and had been living as refugees for several years before being granted asylum by the British government. The family settled into life in Manchester, where they were given housing and financial support by the government until they could support themselves independently.

Who is Ikaris?

Ikaris is Ajak’s father. He had fled Sudan after being forced out of his home by civil war, leaving his wife and children behind while he travelled across Africa seeking safety elsewhere. He eventually reached Egypt where he worked illegally on building sites until he saved enough money to travel to Europe where he hoped that he would be able to find work and send money back home so that his family could join him.
