Gypsy Rose Blanchard was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard was sentenced to 10 years in prison on October 26th for the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. Gypsy was 16 when she stabbed her mother to death in June 2015. The sentence is longer than the seven-year sentence that prosecutors had been seeking, but it’s still a shorter sentence than what many people expected. Here’s a look at why Gypsy killed her mom and what she’ll be doing while serving her time.

What happened to Gypsy Rose Blanchard?

In June 2015, Gypsy Rose Blanchard was living with her mother, 48-year-old Dee Dee Blanchard. They were originally from Louisiana but had moved to Missouri shortly before the murder took place. On June 14th, police received a 911 call from neighbors who reported hearing screams coming from their home. When officers arrived at the scene, they found that Dee Dee had been stabbed multiple times and she died later that day in hospital.

Gypsy has an illness known as Munchausen by proxy syndrome (MBPS). It causes someone to exaggerate or fake illnesses in others and is often done so that they can gain attention and sympathy from others.
