CrossFit founder and former CEO Dave Castro announced his resignation from the company in October 2021. Castro had been a controversial figure since the release of his 2019 documentary, “CrossFit: The Musical,” which led to a number of lawsuits and protests. In an interview with Time Magazine, Castro said that he was leaving CrossFit to focus on his film career.
Castro’s resignation came as a surprise to many, especially considering that he had only been out of prison for six months at the time. He’d served two years after being convicted of assault following an altercation with CrossFit trainer Taylor Reneé while they were filming “CrossFit: The Musical.” In addition to this, several of his other films had also faced criticism for their portrayal of women and minority groups.
