Brown and the Raiders are currently in litigation over his trade to the New England Patriots.

Antonio Brown was traded from the Oakland Raiders to the New England Patriots on October 24th, but it’s not yet clear why he left the team. Brown had previously been a part of a controversial trade between the Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers in August 2019, with Brown being released by Pittsburgh before playing a single game for Oakland. The new trade is also controversial, as it has not yet been made official by either team. Instead, both teams are involved in a legal battle over whether or not they can make the deal.

Why did Antonio Brown leave Oakland?

According to reports from ESPN and NFL Network, Antonio Brown left Oakland after having an altercation with general manager Mike Mayock on October 22nd. This altercation came just days after another incident where Brown reportedly threw his helmet during practice and yelled at coaches after being told he wouldn’t be receiving reps during practice.

What is happening with Antonio Brown’s new trade?

The first trade, which sent Antonio Brown from Pittsburgh to Oakland in August 2019, has been called into question due to a technicality regarding whether or not it should have happened at all.

According to CBS Sports, this new dispute comes down to whether or not Mike Mayock had authority to make trades for Oakland before October 23rd.

USA Today reported that, according to NFL rules, any trades must be agreed upon by both teams prior to 4 p.m., Eastern time on Tuesday (October 23rd). That would mean that if Mayock did indeed try making this deal without approval, then it could be considered invalid by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
