In May 2021, a small cricket tournament in Australia was brought to a halt when several players were arrested for match-fixing. These arrests were part of a larger investigation into corruption in cricket, which led to the arrest of former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. It was revealed that Dhoni had been receiving payments from his teammates and opponents since the start of his career in 2000. This led to India being banned from international cricket for two years and being stripped of their wins over the past decade.
