Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has been sentenced to five years in prison for his role in the 2023 election. The politician was found guilty of tampering with electronic voting machines (EVMs) and voter rolls. He was charged with conspiracy to defraud voters, which carries a maximum sentence of 10 years.
Naidu was arrested on July 1st, 2019, after losing the Andhra Pradesh state elections to YSR Congress Party candidate Jagan Mohan Reddy. He was also stripped of his Chief Minister title and banned from holding public office for 10 years. This came after he lost his appeal against charges that he had tried to rig the election by tampering with EVMs and voter rolls.
