Barty retired from tennis in 2021 after winning the Australian Open.

Australian tennis player Ashleigh Barty has announced her retirement from the sport, saying she will be “forever grateful” for her time on the court. Barty, 25, made the announcement on Instagram on Tuesday, October 23rd. She said she had “been blessed with a career that I never imagined I would have” and was “extremely proud of what I have achieved”.

Barty has been one of Australia’s most successful tennis players in recent years. She won her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2018 and followed it up with another at the Australian Open this year. The win in Melbourne saw Barty become only the second Australian woman to win both Wimbledon and the Australian Open in a calendar year.

Barty was also named ITF World Champion in 2018 after defeating Germany’s Laura Siegemund 7-6 (7-4) 6-2.
