Why do Ashes take place on Wednesday?
Australia’s 2019–2021 Ashes series will be held in England. There are five Tests in the series, with the first starting on August 1st, 2019. This is the third time that England has hosted an Ashes series since The Oval Test of 2005. The last time England hosted an Ashes series was back in 2015.
The 2019–2021 Ashes series will be a bit different from most others. Most other Test cricket series are played over three to five matches, but this one is over five matches, with the first three matches taking place at Edgbaston, Lord’s and Headingley. This is a first for an Ashes series.
England and Australia have been playing each other since 1882 when they played their first Test match at The Oval in London. The two teams have played each other more than any other two teams in cricket history.
