Truckers are going to Ottawa to protest the Trudeau government’s proposed carbon tax.

In the wake of recent protests by Canadian truckers, an estimated 2,000 of them are expected to gather in Ottawa on October 29th. The truckers are planning to protest the Trudeau government’s proposed carbon tax and other environmental regulations that they believe will negatively impact their industry. The protest is scheduled for two days before a federal election in which the Liberal Party is expected to lose seats. Here’s why truckers are going to Ottawa.

What is a carbon tax?

A carbon tax is a fee levied on businesses and individuals for every tonne of greenhouse gas emissions that they produce. Greenhouse gases include CO2, methane, nitrous oxide and several others. This type of tax has been implemented in various countries around the world, including Sweden, Denmark and Ireland. It has also been discussed in Canada since 2008 when former Prime Minister Stephen Harper was in office.

Why do some people oppose a carbon tax?

“It’s not fair!”

Many people oppose a carbon tax because they believe it will unfairly impact low-income families who can’t afford new energy efficient vehicles or home renovations that would help them reduce their energy consumption. Others believe that it would be better for Canada if its provinces were allowed to set their own climate change policies rather than having one single plan imposed from above.
