Ritz crackers are banned in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand

The snack food item has been banned in several countries around the world. Ritz crackers are made by Nabisco, which is owned by Mondelez International. The snack food giant is based in Illinois, USA.

Why are Ritz crackers banned in other countries?

Ritz crackers were first introduced to the market in 1912. They were created by Nabisco employee James Lewis Kraft who was looking for a new way to use the company’s excess cheese supply. Kraft came up with a recipe for a round cracker with a smooth texture that could be easily broken into small pieces and dipped into cheese or other spreads.

The Ritz name was added to the packaging of these new cheese crackers after they were introduced at the Hotel Ritz Paris during an international gourmet exposition. The name was chosen because it sounded sophisticated and French.
