Target’s new “inclusive” bathing suit for girls has caused a stir online.
Target’s new “inclusive” swimsuit for girls has caused quite a stir online. The retailer is facing backlash after it announced its collaboration with plus-size fashion designer Sophie Theallet on a line of swimwear that it claims is designed to be more inclusive.
The line, which was released on October 24th, includes two styles of swimsuits, one with shorts and one with a skirt. Both pieces feature the phrase “A girl should be more than just who she loves” printed across the front. Target claims that the collection is intended to be inclusive of all body types and sexual orientations, but many people are claiming that this is simply not true.
What are people saying about Target?
“I was shocked when I saw this on the shelf,” one Twitter user wrote in response to Target’s tweet announcing its collaboration with Sophie Theallet. “I thought they were gone but they’re still here!”
Why are you still here? I thought you were gone but you’re still here! pic.twitter.com/X9QdJ0Kjqm

Just no.
I love Sophie Theallet’s clothes & am a loyal customer but these are not cute or flattering at all.
They make me look fat & frumpy.
Not even sure why they decided to use the word “girl” in the title either…that part makes me feel even worse because now little girls will want these things thinking it’s what they should wear in order to look like their fave celebs.— Alyssa Milano (@Alyssa_Milano) October 24, 2018
