The people of the United States are no longer safe. The nation has been plagued by mass shootings and there is even talk of climate change, which could wipe out coastal cities. In response to this, more than 200 million Americans have fled the country in search of a better life. So why are they fleeing? And where are they going?

Why are people leaving the US?

Many people have left the US because they fear for their lives. Over 100 million Americans own guns and a third of them say that owning a gun makes them feel safer. This is despite statistics showing that guns kill twice as many Americans as car accidents.

In 2018 alone, there were “more than 300 mass shootings”. A “mass shooting”, according to Gun Violence Archive, is defined as an incident where four or more people (excluding the shooter) were shot or killed in one location, at roughly the same time, with no distinctive time period between each victim being shot.

These statistics have led many Americans to flee their home country.
