The recent heatwave in the UK has caused severe disruption to air travel.

The UK has been hit by a heatwave this summer, which has led to thousands of flights being cancelled. The Met Office issued a level 3 amber alert on Friday, September 6th and a level 2 amber alert on Saturday, September 7th. This meant that people were advised to stay out of the sun and only go outside if absolutely necessary. It also meant that outdoor sporting events were cancelled and outdoor festivals had to be moved indoors.

Airlines have had to cancel flights as a result of the high temperatures because planes can’t take off when it’s too hot. Planes need enough air underneath them for their wings to generate lift so they can fly. When it’s hot, there isn’t enough air under the plane for it to take off safely.
