Flags across the UK were lowered to half mast on October 27th following the death of a former MP. The flags were lowered in honour of Sir Gerald Kaufman, who died at the age of 86. Sir Gerald was a Labour MP for Manchester Gorton for over 30 years and was best known for his outspoken criticism of Israel and support for Palestinian rights. His family has requested that his funeral be private, so we don’t know what time it will take place or where it will be held.

Who is Sir Gerald Kaufman?

Sir Gerald Kaufman was born in 1930 in Leeds, West Yorkshire. He served as an MP from 1970 until 2017, representing Manchester Gorton. He had been suffering from ill health since 2016 and died on October 26th, 2017 at the age of 86.

Kaufman was one of Britain’s longest serving MPs and one of its most outspoken critics.

He criticised Israel’s actions towards Palestinians throughout his career.

Kaufman served as a member of parliament from 1970 until 2017, representing Manchester Gorton as a Labour Party member.

He was known for his outspoken criticism of Israel and support for Palestinian rights.

He supported Palestine even when it went against official party policy
