Agnipath is a remake of the 1989 film of the same name, which was directed by Mukul Anand and starred Amitabh Bachchan. The new version stars Hrithik Roshan in the lead role and was released on October 27th. However, before Agnipath could hit cinemas, several protestors took to social media to call for a boycott of the film.

The protesters were led by Indian politician Omar Abdullah who claimed that Hrithik Roshan had no right to play an iconic character like Vijay Deenanath Chauhan because he is not Indian. In response to this criticism, Roshan has said that he has nothing against Indian actors but would like more roles for Bollywood stars from other countries as well. He also pointed out that his father was born in India and his family still has strong ties with India.
