Thomas Jefferson is considered one of America’s founding fathers. He served as a diplomat in France and in 1790 became Secretary of State under George Washington. In 1796 he became Vice President under John Adams and then in 1801 he became President after John Adams stepped down. In 1804 he won re-election for a second term as President, but declined to run again for a third term in 1808. He then retired to his home at Monticello and died on July 4th, 1826.
