What, the magazine, is a weekly news and culture publication. It was founded in 2019 by former editor-in-chief of GQ Magazine Edward Enninful. The publication aims to cover topics that are relevant to people living in the UK and beyond. Enninful has stated that he hopes What will “give voice to a new generation of writers” and give them “a platform to express their ideas”.
The first issue of What was released on May 1st, 2019. It contained interviews with stars such as Dua Lipa and Lizzo as well as articles about issues such as mental health and race relations. The magazine also featured an interview with Meghan Markle in its first issue. The Duchess of Sussex was asked questions about everything from her wedding dress to her relationship with Prince Harry.
