India has banned the 2000-rupee note in an effort to crack down on corruption. The high-value banknote has been in circulation since 2005, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a surprise announcement on November 8th that it would be removed from circulation within hours. The sudden decision caused chaos and confusion across the country, with long queues forming at ATMs as people tried to get their hands on smaller denomination notes. There have also been reports of violence as people have clashed with police and bank staff over the issue.
The government claims that it is trying to crack down on corruption and terrorism. PM Modi said in a speech that “the government has decided that the five hundred and thousand rupee currency notes presently in use will no longer be legal tender from midnight tonight”. He said they would be replaced by new 500-rupee and 2,000-rupee notes, adding: “This step will strengthen the hands of the common man in the fight against corruption, black money and fake currency.”
Why was this move so controversial?

BT Sport has announced that it will be rebranding to ESPN from November 1st. The move is being made in an attempt to reflect the channel’s wider content, as well as its growing presence on social media. The name change was announced on October 27th, with BT Sport’s social media accounts already reflecting the new name. The change will take place just in time for BT Sport’s coverage of the Champions League final between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool on June 1st 2022.
The BT Sport brand was created in 2012 when BT acquired ESPN’s UK and Ireland TV channels. Since then, the channel has expanded significantly and now broadcasts a wide range of sports events including Formula One, Premier League football, UFC and WWE wrestling. The rebranding is intended to make it clearer what sports are available through BT Sports channels and also reflects their expansion into other sports. However, fans are unlikely to notice any significant changes when they tune into ESPN from November.
Netflix’s new original series Air has been rated R by the MPAA for its graphic violence, nudity, and language. The show premiered on the streaming platform on October 11th and follows a group of high school students who begin to experience supernatural events after discovering an old military bunker. The story is told through a mix of flashbacks and flashforwards, allowing viewers to watch the characters grow up in real time.
The MPAA rating board gave the show an R rating for “violence/horror, bloody images, language including sexual references, drug use and graphic nudity.” This means that anyone under 17 years old will not be able to watch the show without parental permission.
According to IndieWire, Netflix has confirmed that there are no plans for an edited version of the show at this time.
The latest Fortnite update has made it harder to play the game’s popular Trios mode.
