US comic and actor Kevin Hart says he has stepped down from internet hosting the 2019 Oscars following an argument over homophobic tweets.
He mentioned he didn’t need to be a distraction and that he was “sorry he had harm folks”.
The selection of Hart for host was solely introduced on Tuesday.
However tweets from a decade in the past emerged of obvious anti-gay slurs, sparking requires the Academy of Movement Image Arts and Sciences to drop him.
Kevin Hart had mentioned internet hosting the Oscars was “a objective on my checklist for a very long time”.
However in a tweet late on Thursday he mentioned he had chosen to step down “as a result of I don’t need to be a distraction on an evening that needs to be celebrated by so many superb gifted artists”.
He mentioned: “I sincerely apologise to the LGBTQ group for my insensitive phrases of the previous.”
The position has thrown up issues for quite a few previous hosts and the Hollywood Reporter has called it “the least wanted job in Hollywood“.
The Oscars will happen in Los Angeles on 24 February 2019.
