The director of Death to 2021, Brian Hull, was found dead in his London flat on October 27th. The film’s producer, Darren Throop confirmed the news via Twitter. He wrote: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and colleague Brian Hull. He was a brilliant filmmaker and an inspiring human being. We will miss him dearly.” The cause of death is currently unknown.
Brian Hull directed both Death to 2020 and Death to 2021, which were released in 2020 and 2021 respectively. Both films were satirical takes on the year they covered, with Death to 2020 covering 2019 and Death to 2021 covering 2020.
Brian Hull has been described as a “prolific writer” by the Guardian newspaper. The British filmmaker had been working for over two decades before taking on his first major directing role with Death to 2021.
